Insulation

Insulation products available in today's market vary almost as widely as the types of commercial roofing systems out there. Options including Poly ISO, Expanded polystyrene (EPS), Extruded Polystyrene (XPS), Wood Fiber/Perlite and Dens Deck are common choices. Specialty products such as Nail Base or Vented Nail Base are also available.

Choosing the correct commercial insulation system for your project depends on a variety of factors including application, environment, durability, engineering guidelines, building codes and appearance. They each play a role and factor into the proper selection of the commercial roofing insulation that is right for your project. Is Expanded polystyrene (EPS) or Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) or Poly ISO the right choice because of their US Green Building Council LEED building points, or is the flame retardant properties of Dens Deck better suited for your project? You should rely on an expert to guide you through the selection process so you know your making the right decision.

Here at Fowler & Peth we have the Commercial Insulation product specialist that can answer your questions, help educate you and guide you step by step in the selection process so you know your making the right choice for your project. Polyisocyanurate (ISO)

Polyisocyanuarate insulation consists os a closed-cell polyisocyanuarate foam core laminated to a glass reinforced mat facer. This insulation provides outstanding thermal performance on commercial roofing applications. Poly ISO comes in flat panels with various thicknesses from 1" to 4", in 4' widths and 4' or 8' lengths. It also comes in tapered panels with various thicknesses and sizes to eliminate ponding water by providing positive roof top drainage.

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS)

EPS is a molded closed-cell expanded polystyrene foam plastic in the form of flat panels or differing shapes. R-values vary depending upon the thickness of the board and the denisty of the product. EPS is used as a general, nonstructural, thermal insulation material for walls, roofs, panels, door cavities, perimeters of foundations and basements. EPS can also be tapered to provide proper drainage on a roof top application.

Extruded Polystyrene (XPS)

XPS, extruded polystyrene insulation has superior long-term thermal properties, has a high resistance to water absorption, is available in high comprssive strengths and is easily handled and installed. XPS comes in various thicknesses, widths and lengths, in either flat panels or tapered panels. XPS can be used in both roof and wall applications.

Wood Fiber

Wood fiber insulation board provides an answer for low-slope applications and systems. It is not only an intregal system component, it also makes roofing easier with physical properties that generate structural rigidity and dimensional stability. Wood Fiber board is lightwieght and possesses natural bonding qualitites that result in superior adhesion without excessive absorption providing a solid, secure roof system. It bonds well with most asphalt and cold process adhesives.

Perlite

Perlite is a siliceous rock (volcanic glass) that when combined with other materials provides a lightweight thermal insulation with enhanced fire ratings. Perlite primary application in roofing is in providing tapered panels that help create positive drainage where a higher fire rating is required. It is mainly used in BUR and APP applications where heat is a source in applying the roof membrane.

Dens Deck

G-P Gypsum engineered DensDeck roof board as a nonstructural glass mat gypsum roof board to deliver top performance in commercial roof assemblies. The fire, wind uplift and moisture absorption resistance, strength and durability of DensDeck make is a good choice for commercial roofing. It can be used is various applications as a cover board, overlayment (fire barrier protection), underlayment (thermal barrier), recover and separator board and an air or vapor barrier. It can be used in numerous roof assemblies from Single Ply and BUR to Wood Shake or Metal.

Specialty Nail Base

Nail Base Insulation is a thermally efficient poly iso insulation board bonded with an OSB or Plywood board on the top side. Nail Base provides the benefit of both a nailable surface and insulation. It can come in various thicknesses from 1-1/2" to 4-1/2" in 4' x 8' sheets.

Specialty Vented Nail Base

Vented Nail Base insulation consists of thermally efficient poly iso insulation board, with vent spacer strips, bonded with an OSB or Plywood board on the top side. This creates cross ventialtion along with a nailable surface and insulation. Vented Nail Base is preferable in applications where the is minimal ventilation like vaulted ceilings.
